Hazardous waste management requires extensive information collection and analysis and the latest technology for managing information resources. The data and immediate response needs of emergencies are unmet, even by the online databases some agencies have used. To address some shortcomings, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) plans TDB2, an expansion and improvement of the Toxicology Data Bank (TDB). To package information more usefully, a microcomputer workstation is being developed with features of the Chemical Substances Information Network (CSIN) technology, such as script-mode access to databases. These developments will help greatly in emergencies. A system has been developed by the Environmental Testing and Certification Corp. (Edison, New Jersey) to manage environmental data.
